Sand Art Contest Rules

The contest takes place at First Encounter Beach on Saturday, September 6. Registration begins at 8 am and building begins at 8:30am. Judging starts at 10:30am, with winners announced at 11:30am. All participants will be asked to give the theme for their design and judges will consider how well the final product represents the stated theme. Additionally all participants should keep in mind that only NATURAL artifacts found on First Encounter Beach the day of the contest can be used in the final presentation.

There will be 3 major groups for judging this year.

Awards will be given in all three groups. Also, special awards for "Best in Show" and the "Special Judges Award" will be determined by the judges. The popular "Viewer Choice Award" will be determined by votes received (1 vote per person, please) by non-participants.

"Magic" will provide entertainment from 9:00am until 11:00am.

Bike Raffle Rules

Idle Times Bikes generously dontes 2 bikes each year for a free raffle. Children between the ages of 6 to 15 can sign up on Saturday or Sunday — the raffle is free. One bike will be awarded to a boy and one to a girl. Parents can not sign up for their child. The child must be present to win a bike. The drawing will be at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 7.

Road Race Rules

The Road Race is held Sunday morning, September 7. Registration starts at 7am at Nauset High School, on Cable Road. The entry fee is $15 for adults, and $10 for students. Runners under 12 are free. T-shirts are given to all participants.

Two routes are available for the race.

The 5 mile course starts at Nauset High School and takes a left onto Cable Rd. towards Nauset Light beach. Then it takes a right onto Ocean View Drive towards Coast Guard beach. Ocean View then becomes Doane Rd. and the runners go all the way to the National Seashore Visitor Center and take a right onto Schoolhouse Road. At the end of Schoolhouse they take a left onto Nauset Road. Then they take a right onto Cable Road. They take the first left into the school and proceed to finish from where they started.

The 2 mile course follows the 5 mile course down to Nauset Light beach and takes a right onto Ocean View Drive. They go about two tenths of a mile down Ocean View and then turn around and head back to the school for the finish.

Runners participate in the following age groups:

12 and under
13-19
20-29
30-39
40-49
50-59
60-69
70-79
80 and over

Prizes are given to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers in each category in each race. Awards are given for the top 3 finishers overall in both the 2 mile and 5 mile races.
